|New Odyssey Business Specializes in Buttons
|by Nathan Hoobler
All About Buttons is opening a new manufacturing plant in Odyssey this month. The company moved into the buildings vacated by the bankrupt Edgebiter Chemical Company and has begun hiring local residents for a number of positions.
All About Buttons president Ben Matthews said the company makes quality buttons, for everything from computers to car panels. “Name something you press and we probably make it.”
The company is especially proud of its work with calculator buttons. “Our ‘equals’ button is second to none,” Matthews said. “And I think our square root symbol has a unique curve. Discerning consumers look for details like that.”
As a gift to Odyssey, the company donated a brand-new red button to the Imagination Station at Whit’s End. John Avery Whittaker, owner of Whit’s End, said the button had needed replacing for some time, but he put it off for sentimental reasons.
“I kept thinking of how many people had pushed that button before going on adventures,” he said. “But I realized that it was worn down and really needed upgrading.”
Whittaker said that All About Buttons offered to make the button and install it. A small replacement ceremony was held at the shop last week.
All About Buttons moved to Odyssey from Grangeville, Idaho, and is the newest in a line of businesses to move here in the last year, including Novacom Broadcasting and Surveillance City. Mayor Margaret Faye said new companies moving in is a sign of Odyssey’s booming economy.
“Odyssey is a prime place to open a business,” she said. “We have hardworking people and a strong consumer base.”
